H. Upmann Cigars
Herman
Upmann came from a European
banker dynasty and loved good
cigars, which induced him to
resettle in
Havana in 1844, and
to open his own cigar factory.
Connoisseurs appreciate the
consistent quality of this
brand. Besides the signature of
Herman Upmann, no less than
eleven gold medals won at
international exhibitions during
the 19th Century adorn his cigar
boxes.
H. Upmann’s are
medium-bodied Havanas, which are
also appreciated by the
occasional smoker, with the
exception is the
Monarca. The
spicy-sweet flavor
Cuban flavor
is also a part of the
Upmann cigars.
The
Upmann Assortment is extensive
and includes 18 formats, the
majority being completely
hand-made, although there are
some “mecanizados” – particially
machine-manufactured in the
assortment. Of the long fillers,
especially recommendable are the
H. Upmann
Magnum 46, a
Corona
Gorda with a woodsy-flowery
sweet flavor. Also very
excellent is the Upmann
Connoisseur No. 1, a
Robusto
with strong, earthy,
tender-fruity notes. The
Upmann
No. 2
Torpedo offers a fresh,
strong earthy-woody aroma,
accompanied by a voluminous
sweetness. The Upmann
Sir
Winston, a
Churchill, is rather
strong, with a full, earthy
aroma, containing notes of mint
and cinnamon, a really beautiful
old “Cuban-style” cigar. Then
there is the
Upmann
Monarcas,
also a
Churchill, but suitable
not for the beginner, because it
is very strong and rich, with a
sonorous taste and intensive
earthy-woody flavors. The
Upmann
Magnum 50 from
the Limited Edition 2005
is not only a large cigar, it's
a great cigar too.
