The label Saint Luis Rey was established shortly before World War II. Rumor has it that the name of this brand refers to the book "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" by Thornton Wilder, which was extremely popular at that time. More probable, however, is that this label’s name was dedicated to the city of San Luis, which is located in the heart of the tobacco growing region of Vuelta Abajo, where the excellent wrapper leaves are cultivated.
