Punch Cigars and the
Punch Magazine
 Punch
is one of the oldest of the
Habano brands.
Manuel Lopez of
Juan Valle & Co. Established
this label in the middle of the
19th Century with an eye to the
profitable British market.
Punch cigars borrowed their name from
the British satire magazine
Punch, which at that time had
already enjoyed great notoriety,
and today no doubt contributes
to the popularity of this cigar
brand in England. Mr. Punch, the
contented jester, who
represented the magazine at that
time, is still to be seen with a
cigar in hand on every box. In
1925,
Punch moved its production
to the
Hoyo de Monterrey, and to
date this cooperation still
exists.
Punch cigars are
characterized not only by their
full flavor, which can be
described as delightfully
sweet-spicy, but also by their
excellent price performance
ratio.
The
Punch assortment is comparably
as broad as that of
Partagas,
however the
Punch cigars are
milder. Particularly the
mid-size and large formats are
very dependable because they are
never a disappointment. As is
the case for many other brands,
the
Punch
Double Corona can
especially be recommended due to
it’s inherent complexity – truly
a special treat for the
"expert". Similarly, and yet due
to it’s format, the very popular
Punch
Punch makes a stronger
statement. Also the other,
somewhat smaller formats are
impressive: for instance the
Punch
Churchill, the
Punch
Super
Selection 1, the
Punch
Royal
Selection 11, the
Petit
Corona del Punch, or the
Petit Punch launched in
2005.
